Thank you toTaylorville Memorial Hospital for sending an ER nurse to speak to our first graders during community helpers week. Nurse Lucas Schneider spoke to students about his job taking care of patients in the emergency room.

Mrs. Foil's students are pictured using their whiteboards to learn the 5 major lines of latitude and the 2 major lines of longitude. Students participated in a group competition mapping latitude and longitude on the classroom ceiling. The video features students learning latitude and longitude with a partner.

The Taylorville Fire Department visited North Elementary School on Wednesday to teach the first graders about their jobs. Thank you for bringing your truck along with you!

Sherriff Kettelkamp visited with the first graders today during community helpers week and brought along Deputy Ryan to talk about their jobs in law enforcement. Thank you for visiting our school and bringing along your squad car.

Ryan Reitmeier, the director of Taylorville Public Library, joined Mrs. Sorrill's English 10A classes on Monday to discuss banned books. Ryan brought several examples of well-known banned books like Harry Potter, Hop on Pop and Twilight to use as examples. Mr. Reitmeier's presentation helped students understand their voice in book banning and raised awareness of the controversy behind many banned books.

Today, Taylorville Police Chief Dwayne Wheeler visited THS to talk with our Freshman during Advisory. Among the topic he discussed were: - Social Media - Bullying and the consequences of Harassment/Intimidation - Drugs including Marijuana, Meth, and Fentanyl - Safe Passage Program Thank you Chief Wheeler!

Mrs. Crane, the instructional coaches, and Ms. Specha created a QR code checkout system for the teachers at Memorial School. Teachers will now have access to check out and share reading materials for their classrooms.

First grade classes enjoyed a visit from a mailman today. They are learning about community helpers this week. Thank you to our local post office for sending someone to speak to our students.

Congratulations to Matt Blomquist, who was named a winner of the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence this morning. Blomquist, a construction teacher at Taylorville High School in Taylorville, IL, won a total of $50,000, including $15,000 for himself and $35,000 for his program. A total of $1.25 million is being awarded to twenty high school skilled trades teachers in 15 states. Harbor Freight Tools for Schools "I love giving students a chance to have a feeling of accomplishment, and love when students have to productively struggle to get that accomplishment. It gets even better if at the end of that they ask "what's next?" That becomes my validation as the teacher and drives me to do it again."
