More of 1st grade Dot Day!

First graders celebrated DOT Day by reading The Dot, with each teacher leading a different activity centered around the story’s theme of creativity and self-expression. Students rotated between classrooms, experiencing various lessons and activities from each teacher. These photos capture Mrs. Lively and Ms. Reiser's activity, where students used augmented reality (AR) to bring their dots to life, adding an exciting tech twist to this creative celebration.

2nd grade continued

Ms. Reiser visited all the 2nd-grade classrooms last week to explore the app Quiver and its augmented reality features. Using the app, students were able to transform 2D pictures into interactive 3D images. They could manipulate the 3D objects and engage with them through various actions, providing a hands-on experience with augmented reality technology.

Today, 5th graders from Ms. McChristy and Ms. Laker's classes joined the 2nd graders from Mrs. Cope's and Mrs. Vickers' classes at North for a special reading activity. We call them '5th Grade Buddies,' and they teamed up to share stories and foster a love of reading across grade levels. It was a wonderful opportunity for older students to mentor their younger peers while building strong connections through literacy.

Mrs. Reindl went into all the 5th grade classes this week and taught the students about their digital footprint. She read "The Technology Tail" by Julia Cook to the classes. Then students designed their own tail. They used band -aides to cover any bruises or scratches (bad things posted online), stickers (good or helpful things they have done online), and holes (not so smart things they have shared online). It was a great learning activity.

Mrs. Salmon's 6th grade science class has been learning about the solar system. Mrs. Reindl - brought in sphero's teaching the students how to code them. Students then coded the sphero's to rotate around the sun. More advanced coders went on to add color and sound.
