Congratulations to Memorial students of the month for April! April's character trait was gratitude: Say thank you when someone gives you something or does something for you. Say thank you when others think of you by helping, supporting and loving you. Celebrate the joys and accomplishments of others and be happy when they celebrate your own accomplishments. On Saturday, April 26th, during a break between Storm 13U doubleheader games where he was umpiring, Baron Odam received a surprise award presentation from Mrs. April Wolfe (THS Teacher) and her family as he was presented the Jacob William Memorial Scholarship. Mrs. Wolfe felt this timing was particularly fitting as Baron is preparing to play collegiate baseball and has been such a positive influence on younger generations of athletes. Congratulations Baron!!!

Tomorrow marks one of my favorite experiences each year as a principal in the Taylorville School District, the Illinois Principals Association Student Leadership breakfast at the U of I in Springfield. This year we honor Sarah Wagner as our outstanding 8th grade student of the year. Please join me in congratulating her along with her parents Mark and Cynthia Wagner. Sarah represents the very best of the TJHS student body Class of 2029.

Fourth grade students collaborated with volunteer Mr. White to complete a culminating project on simple machines. For the challenge, students designed and built machines to help “wee people” transport bars of silver over a distance of at least one meter. Using everyday household items, they creatively incorporated pulleys, wheels and axles, inclined planes, screws, and wedges to complete the task, applying what they learned in a fun and hands-on way.
