The students of Taylorville Junior High School are proud to honor the veterans in our community with a Veterans Day Breakfast on Monday, November 6, 2023 in the Taylorville Junior High School cafeteria. We ask that those attending please call the junior high at (217)824-4924 by Thursday, November 2, 2022. Reservations need to include: the name of the veteran, the number of family members attending, the branch of service, and any special accommodations that might be needed. We ask that our veterans and their families park in the back parking lot and use the east entrance near North School to enter the building. Escorts will then show attendees to the cafeteria for breakfast and a short program.

THS staff taking part in some Halloween fun!

Mrs. Anderson’s 8th grade science class recently learned about potential and kinetic energy. Students had the task of building a coaster and were given a list of materials and prices with criteria and constraints. After building and testing, students presented their coasters to the class along with a marketing plan. Thank you to the Taylorville Junior High Alumni and area manager of rides Anthony Aldridge for meeting with the 8th grade science classes all the way from Carowinds Amusement Park in North Carolina. He took time to explain all that goes into designing, constructing, and maintaining coasters. He was very knowledgeable about coasters from all around the world. It was a great way to wrap up the unit with the science students.

Taylorville Sr. High School would like to congratulate the Class of 2024 Illinois State Scholars!

Taylorville Sr. High School went on a Code Yellow (Soft Lockdown) at 11:13 a.m. on Thursday, October 19th. A student had made a comment to another student in the hallway during the passing period about an Airsoft gun. Student A implied that the Airsoft gun was real, and was in his locker. Student A told the administration that he was joking with Student B. After a search of Student A and Student B's lockers it was confirmed that no Airsoft guns or weapons of any kind were in the lockers. After a discussion with TPD, the administration determined that there were no safety concerns for THS students. The Code Yellow (Soft lockdown) was lifted at 11:21 a.m. Taylorville Sr. High School resumed normal operations. The safety and security of THS students and staff is always our highest priority. Thank you to the Taylorville Police Department for their assistance.

Congratulations to our paraprofessionals of the month as well. They each work alongside Mrs. Tucker and assist with students in our life skills class. Mrs. Ashley Shaw, Ms. Tina Martin, and Ms. Melissa Midland all enjoy seeing the kids light up when learning new things, enjoy communicating with sign language, and helping out with our Tornado Joe's coffee cart classroom store. Thank you to these outstanding professionals making a positive difference in the lives of our children on a daily basis.

Congratulations to Mrs. Shelly Graves for being selected as the September Teacher of the Month at TJHS. Mrs. Graves likes to inspire the desire in her kids to learn and loves teaching with her colleague Mrs. Alberssen with the walls wide-open. Thank you Mrs. Graves for your outstanding contributions to our kids and community at TJHS!
