To celebrate Community Banking Week in April, Community Bank is hosting an art contest for students ages 18 and under! Students can create a banking-themed poster showing what community banking means to them. Winners will be selected and featured on Community Bank’s Facebook page.

On Friday, February 4, all 8th-grade students had the opportunity to witness a live heart surgery through a virtual platform. This unique experience was educational and inspiring. Students were able to observe the entire procedure in real time. During the surgery, students were able to engage directly with the surgical team, allowing them to ask questions and gain insights into the complexity of the operation. This interaction enhanced their understanding of the anatomy and function of this vital organ. The surgical team not only discussed the procedure taking place; they talked about the importance of heart health and the impact of choices. During the procedure, the students were introduced to a range of medical careers related to cardiology and surgery. The surgical team's goal was to gain interest and inspire students in the healthcare profession by showcasing diverse paths available in the medical field. Mrs. Reindl organized this virtual experience with the support of the Illinois AHEC network and Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Mrs. Deetz’s first graders jumped right into our Valentine STEM Centers and showed off their growing coding skills! Using color patterns and sequencing, students programmed our Indi robots to complete festive challenges. It’s amazing to watch their confidence build as they test, revise, and try again. 💕🤖

Our Fourth Circuit Court Judge Wesley Gozia helps Memorial students celebrate President Lincoln's birthday by reading Abe Lincoln's Hat by Martha Brenner. Judge Gozia also donated a copy of some books about President Lincoln to each of our third grade classes. Thank you Judge Gozia!

8th Grade Students Explore Cybersecurity Careers and Online Safety
Our 8th grade students recently had the opportunity to learn about cybersecurity and online safety from Ms. Courtney Fuerstenau, a cybersecurity engineer. Mrs. Reindl arranged for Ms. Fuerstenau to create an engaging video for students that focused on staying safe online, what a cybersecurity engineer does, the wide range of careers available in cybersecurity, and the steps students can take to pursue a future in the field.
The video was shared with all 8th grade science classes, where students viewed and discussed the content. Following the video, students developed thoughtful questions for Ms. Fuerstenau. These questions were then used during a live-streamed question and answer session that included all 8th grade students.
Ms. Fuerstenau did an excellent job explaining the importance of online safety and encouraging students to consider careers in cybersecurity and computer science. The experience gave students valuable real-world insight into a growing career field and practical strategies for staying safe in the digital world.
