2nd Annual TJHS Veterans Day Breakfast

The Taylorville Junior High School Student Council held its 2nd Annual Veterans Day Breakfast this morning in the TJHS cafeteria. Mr. Dan Nieves, Social Studies Department Chair, welcomed approximately fifty veterans and their families to the event. After reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and singing the National Anthem, those in attendance enjoyed a short program. Mr. Nieves recognized each veteran and his or her branch of service. Under the direction of Mrs. Jean Ninmer, the sixth grade choir sang, “Shake Hands With America.” Following the song, Julie Wayman, first place winner in the VFW Patriot’s Pen Essay Competition, read her essay. The seventh and eighth grade band, under the leadership of Mrs. Ninmer then played the selection “Armed Forces on Parade,” and veterans were asked to stand as their branch’s song was played. Patriot’s Pen third place winner, Kavya Patel then read her contest entry, and the band played its final song, “Liberty Enlightening the World.” As a final display of appreciation, veterans and their families took a Heroes Walk through the halls of TJHS as students and staff waved flags and posters in their honor. The students, administration, and staff recognize the selfless sacrifices our past, present, and future veterans make in keeping the United States of America the “Land of the Free, and the Home of the Brave!”
